KIDMAP-Excel introduction at PROMS 2007 : (Rasch Download)

The polytomous response test can be executed in KIDMAP-Excel by a batch file connecting to WINSTEPS.

Manual document for KIDMAP:

Step 1: paste the multiple choice item test responses to spreadsheet of [sheet1]

       2: paste the answer key with comma onto the box text of [KEY] context

       3: Click [Transform by KEY] to transform the raw data into dichotomous true/false type in spreadsheet of [sheet1]

       4:Click on the bottom icons from 1 to 4 to get the KIDMAP of number (i.e., box text in person or item no for Kidmap)

           (If you click on [item] icon, the item character curve of number (i.e., box text in person or iem no for Kidmap) will show up in spreadsheet of [item]

      5:[iteration for estimation] will dependent on the frequency and convergence: the default value will stop at sum of residual at  0.006 below, otherwise will stop at iteration frequency at 50. The end of iteration will also stop at the your setting, e.g., at the changed value at either frequency or convergence you define.

     6: Click the icon of [Mail KIDMAP to all], the individual KIDMAP will send to whom by the email defined in the spreadsheet of [email]  one by one till you quit it. The spreadsheet of [report] will be generated again and again by each individual person's KIDMAP, and an attachment Excel file will be arranged onto outlook express of Micro-Software.

Step 1: Click on the icon of KIDMAP to txt, and then ckick on the [KIDMAP to txt] according to the range of upper from-and-to. The text file file of several KIDMAP will be generated in the file of [kidmap.txt]

       2: You should open the [kidmap.txt] in the folder of this KIDMAP Excel file existed.

 Manual document for Generating data:

 Step 1: Click on the icon of [generating data] and you can generate many kind of data set according to your definition of dicho or poly on top of the form and the [dicho data] and [poly data] you click on respectively. 

        2: The data set will be generated in the [rawdata] spreadsheet. Clicking [to response] will let the data in [rawdata] transform into  [response] spreadsheet. Clicking [to sheet1] will let the data in [response] transform into  [sheet1] spreadsheet. After the above procedule, you could simulate the data in this KIDMAP procedual.

Others(FQA): 

    1>What is the [For category] icon meaning?

        Sometimes, your data set was organized in form of continue type instead of the category. The icon will help you transform the data set by log function into a category-type form in [sheet1] in order to proceed a series of 1- to- 4 estimation and KIDMAP output generation.

  2>What is the [continue data in form of [generating data]?

       We help the caregory data set in [rawdata] spreadsheet transformed into a continue type of data by exp function(Transform data into continued data in rawdata).

  3> What is the icon of [data after sampling] meaning?

       In [rawdata] spreadsheet, we transform the value in each cell by the theta(ability) and delta(difficulty) in extream right side and bottom side, respectively into the new value again according to the condition of category number minus 1 in the cell of (3,2)[namely B3], i.e, the 1 means dichotomous, the 2 or greater means polytomous. The value in the specified cell will be generated again according the probability calculated by the Rasch model to generate the file category value in line with the category-minus-1 in the cell of (3,2)[namely B3] in [rawdata] spreadsheet.

   4>How about the use of the KIDMAP Excel file? Charged or fee?

      If you are the attendee of PROMS (Pacific Rim Objective Measurement Symposium) or the user of WINSTEPS, the version of KIDMAP in Excel  will free in the following one year, which will be dependent on whether you are the member of PROMS or WINSTEPS in the next year. All the update version will be also announced by the registered email.

     5>How about process to try or buy it and the payment?

         We will charged each version with $50 US dollars each year for those person who are not yet the member fo PROMS or WINSTEPS. The next year after attending PROMS seminar will be due to free charge for the version of KIDMAP in Excel.     The payment information could be requested by the following feedback form.

      6> What is the [read data] in the home page form? 
          Which means that a 9*10 matrix will be generated in [sheet1] as the Excel Spreadsheet

     7> How about the extreme score estimation (i.e., 0 and perfect scores for items and persons)

        In the main form, the extreme estimation provides two kinds of methods to be choosed:

        (1) a single regression on the theta-probability  S curve with averaged theta value left or right toward to adjust the difficult or easy phenomenon  of TCC.  The result will be roughly in accuracy of estimation on item or person due to the line relation to the latent trait.

       (2) We adopt the relation between raw scores and probability derived from adjusted average theta and TCC,  and get the possible probability of extreme score by means of a single regression of raw score and probability to obtain the latent trait (theta or delta) value through the probability formula of Rasch model. Therefore the estimated value (2) on the extreme will be more accurate than the previous one (1).

   8> What is the "scaled scale" on the ultimately right column in [sheet1]?

      We transform the theta into a scaled scale with a mean of 30 and SD of 7.75. The lowest score is set at 1 and highest at  60. Warn: if any one who endorsed only 1 item incorrect and got the same scale score as those with  perfect scores. re 

   9> How can I read the KIDMAP.txt directly in Excel?

       Click on the [Read text file] after completing the [Kidmap.txt] generation. If not successful, check the [notepad.exe] whether in the folder of [c:\winnt]. If not, please copy the notepad.exe into the folder of [c:\winnt].

  10>How can I get the file?

        We will send a web site and let you know the password and ZIP file location for download.
